FLOOR CARE TIPS
CARPET: We recommend that you follow these guidelines to keep your carpet looking newer longer.
Place walk-off mats near entrances and clean them often. This will reduce foot-soiling due to oil, grease and other substances that can be tracked in from the outside.
Vacuum often, particularly in areas of frequent foot traffic. Use a machine with a beater bar and brush, and change direction often.
Periodic cleaning is necessary to prolong the life of your carpet. This should be done, on average, at least once every two years. High traffic areas may need cleaning more frequently, and areas of little traffic at lesser intervals. We recommend you choose a professional cleaning service with experience and training in the latest techniques for cleaning advanced generation fibers. We recommend you use a hot water extraction method applied by a professional cleaning service.
No carpet is completely stain proof. Certain common household products contain color destroying chemical substances that can cause your carpet to become permanently discolored. Immediate attention to spots and spills will make removal easier. Always blot the area to be cleaned. One of the best agents to use on water based spills is Club Soda. After blotting to remove spill, dribble it on, let it set for a moment then blot again to remove stain.
There is no such thing as an invisible seam in any textile product. All floorings, carpet or otherwise, will have a degree of visibility of seams. If the seam is tight and even, and the cuts are cleanly made, the seam will be considered commercially acceptable.

VINYL: We recommend that you follow these guidelines to keep your vinyl looking newer longer.
Because your floor needs time to thoroughly dry after installation, we recommend that you do not scrub or wash your floor for five days.
When moving appliances and furniture, lay a plywood panel on your floor and "walk" the appliance across it. This protects your floor from scuffing and tears.
Use floor protectors on furniture to reduce indentations. As a general rule of thumb, the heavier the item, the wider the floor protectors should be.
Rolling casters can damage the surface of the floor and are not recommended.
Place a natural or colorfast mat at outside entrances to collect tracked-in dirt and absorb excess moisture. We recommend mats without a rubber back since the backing can cause permanent discoloration.
Damp mop or vacuum regularly to remove loose dirt, which can scratch your floor. When vacuuming, use a nonpowered wand attachment since a beater bar can visibly damage the floor surface.
Wash your floor occasionally with the recommended no-rinse floor cleaner. All major manufacturers have no rinse floor cleaners available.
Do not use soap-based detergents, abrasive cleaners, or "mop and shine" products, as these may leave a dull film on your floor.
Over time, the shine on your floor may dull. If this occurs, use a floor polish recommended by the manufacturer. Do not use paste wax or solvent-based polishes.
Wipe up spills as soon as possible. Remove dried spills with the to manufacturer's heavy duty cleaner.
Never use highly abrasive scrubbing tools on any vinyl floor.
Damage caused by high-heel shoes is not covered by any type of warranty. High heels can damage all types of floors including carpet, vinyl, ceramic, and wood.

HARDWOOD: We recommend that you follow these guidelines to keep your hardwood looking newer longer.
Test your hardwood by placing a few drops of water on an inconspicuous area of your floor such as a closet, to determine if your finish is wax or urethane. If the finish becomes dull or white, it is most likely wax. If water does not dull or affect the color of the floor's finish, it is most likely urethane.
Urethane finish: Initial Care- Following installation, clean your hardwood floor with the recommended no-wax floor cleaner.
Frequently sweep or vacuum the floor to remove loose dirt before it can scratch or be ground into the floor's surface. For spot cleaning, apply cleaner onto a clean cloth and rub onto the spot. Never apply wax topicals to your urethane floor.
Following sweeping and vacuuming instructions for routine care, spread cleaner directly on the floor and wipe with a sponge mop or appropriate cleaning applicator. Do not allow puddles of no-wax cleaner to remain on floor's surface. Excess liquid may damage the fiber of the wood.
Wax finish: Initial Care- Following installation, the floor should be waxed with the recommended products.
Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove loose dirt before it can scratch or be ground into the floor's surface. Wax the floor once or twice a year, about as often as you would shampoo your carpet. Do not use no-wax cleaners on wax finish floor.
Buffing your hardwood floors between waxing will restore the original sheen. Large, heavy weight buffing machines impart a much higher sheen to wax finish than small lightweight machines. Use a fiber bristle brush attachment only. It may be desirable to wax the floor slightly more often in drier climates, during the winter, and in heavy traffic areas.
Use outside doormats at the entrances to keep dirt and moisture from being tracked in. Inside, you may want to add an area rug. Don't use rubber, foam back, or plastic mats as they may discolor the floor. Area rugs should be moved occasionally as they block sunlight, which may give the appearance of discoloring under the rug.
A humidifier is recommended to prevent excessive shrinkage of wood floors due to low humidity levels. The heating season causes very dry conditions. A level of 35-55% is recommended.
In damp conditions, proper humidity levels can be maintained with air conditioner or dehumidifier, or by periodically turning on your heating system during the summer months.
